Alnwick Bowling Club
ALNWICK bowlers had triple success in league competitions this week.
In the Northumberland County Bowling Association B Division of the Clegg Cup, they kept up their challenge for promotion with a 10-4 win at Seaton Sluice. They finished all-square in the match but were 15 shots up to take the six bonus points. They are now five points behind third-place Westerhope and have two games in hand.
In the Nines League, they beat The Willows from Tyneside by 61 shots to 50 and share the points in the three sections.
At last it was back to winning form in the North Northumberland League when Alnwick entertained Rothbury at home and won 7-1
Alnwick’s Joyce Harper and skip Brenda Ord won the Wooler open pairs on Saturday from a 32 pairs entry. They beat Chris Cairns and Tom Dixon (s), from Rothbury, in the final.
Sunday saw the second round of the TE Hall triples.
There were ten triples entered and winners of one section were Mavis Liddle, Geoff Mills and Ken Liddle (s). In the other section, George Heron, Bob Bingham and Ronnie Givens (s), with equal wins, won by five shots from John Levy, David Wilkinson and Russ Dale(s).
The final produced some excellent bowling with the Ronnie Givens triple running out winners against Ken Liddle 9-3 after seven ends.
The final is played in September and there are still two rounds to go.
