JUST over a week remains to nominate your sports heroes for a new competition honouring the cream of the county’s sporting crop.
Last week, Northeast Press and Tweeddale Press, which includes the Gazette, launched the Northumberland Sport Awards to recognise sporting stars throughout Northumberland.
The contest, which is inspired by London 2012, is made up of 10 categories and will bring together the winners of three of the county’s most prestigious sporting awards ceremonies – Alnwick and District, Berwick and Tynedale.
Celebrating talent, success, dedication and commitment, individual sports stars, teams, coaches and volunteers will battle it out in their respective sections.
But the competition isn’t only open to those who won at the three awards evenings.
We want you, the readers, to submit your nominations, which will be judged and a shortlist will be drawn up.
But hurry, because the deadline is Friday, June 1.
The awards are open to anyone living in Northumberland and the winners will be announced at a free-to-attend prize-giving ceremony at Alnwick Playhouse on June 11, during the Festival of Alnwick week.
It is hoped that the Northumberland Sport Awards will become an annual fixture in the county’s sporting calendar.
