Sports Award. James Boyd. Steve Miller.

WINNER: James Boyd – Cricket

DEDICATED James bowled over the competition to take the Volunteer of the Year accolade.

His organisation, commitment and enthusiasm proved key to re-establishing the junior section at Warkworth Cricket Club, which had suffered from a massive loss of interest in the sport.

But James, who took on the role of the club’s Junior Coordinator, hit this downward spiral for six, attracting new players, getting the junior section running well and playing competitive matches.

His attention to detail and organisational skills have been described as ‘exceptional’ and ‘widely appreciated’ by the young players.

James’ achievements were recognised by the Northumberland Cricket Board when he scooped the Young Volunteer award in The Northumberland NatWest OSCAs (Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards) for 2011.

James, from South Broomhill, said: “It is great to get recognition,” but modestly added that the Sports Council accolade was for everyone who had played their part at the club.
