Alnwick Harriers Juniors

Six Alnwick Harrier Juniors represented Northumberland in the Inter Counties Schools Cross-Country Championship at Temple Park, South Shields, at the weekend.

To represent the county against North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Cleveland and Durham, they had to qualify through the area and county championships at Druridge Bay then Temple Park.

The senior girls produced the best results of the day with Suzie Barwise-Munro and Rosie Murton finishing second and sixth. Callie Henderson, as a ‘young’ junior, ran well to come in 14th position in her race.

The boys also fielded three runners. Daniel Leng managed 45th in the senior boys and Ben Kelly 25th in the ‘inter’ boys.

Finally, Ollie Telfer, Alnwick’s only ‘minor’ runner, managed 56th over his 2.6km course.

Teams of eight athletes are selected to represent Northumberland at the National Championship next month and hopefully several Alnwick runners will get places.
