Winning the toss, Alnmouth batted first and Callum Batey and Ed Gillon put on 57 for the first wicket inside nine overs.

Gillon was dismissed for 26, but Batey and Jonny Ridley continued to score well before Batey retired having completed his half century.

Ridley (20), Rob Burnett (17), Ali Batey (22 not out) and Andy McDonnell (12 not out) helped Alnmouth to 153-4, and 31 runs came in the last four overs.

Ashington openers Jack Jessop and Adam Nichol put on 53 for the first wicket inside seven overs, but Ashington would soon wobble.

Andy McDonnell took the wickets of Nichol (35) and Sonu Singh (one) and the bowlers took control, although Jessop hit 44.

Alnmouth’s wicket-takers were Ali Batey (three), Andy McDonnell (three), Ed Brunton (two) and Jonny Ridley.
