Alnmouth & Lesbury II (97) v Bedlington II (85)
Alnmouth & Lesbury secured the Division B2 Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League championship with a tight victory over their nearest rivals Bedlington.
On winning the toss, the Bedlington captain had no hesitation in asking Alnmouth to bat first on a lively wicket.
The visitors got off to a good start with opening batsman Robinson looking in great form. The total was taken to 39 before the first wicket fell when veteran bowler Steve Williams gained the first of his two lbw decisions to oust Hinchliffe. It then slipped to 48-4 when Robinson fell for an excellent 34, which proved to be the day’s top score. Gray (15) then held the remainder of the innings together as wickets fell regularly.
In reply, the Bedlington opening batsman Anderson got the innings off to a flying start by dispatching Neil back over his head for a four in the first over.
The innings progressed to 32 before the first wicket fell when Anderson (25) pushed a Neil delivery to Hodgson in the gully. Neil then struck again as Shepard departed for a duck and Leason gave Robinson a wicket and Hodgson a second catch.
Brooks replaced Neil in the bowling attack and conceded 10 runs in his first over. His next eight overs, however, only conceded eight runs and yielded five wickets. When he took the final wicket, Alnmouth were victorious by 12 runs.
