Ponteland (183-8) v Bamburgh Castle (165 all out)
Bamburgh, who could only raise 10 men, lost to an experienced Ponteland side by 19 runs on Sunday.
Asked to bowl first, Bamburgh made a dream start as Johnny Roxburgh clean-bowled opener F Padikaran first ball.
This brought Ponteland’s Australian Andy Quarrell to the crease to join Andy Denyer in the middle. They saw off the opening bowlers and added 73 runs before Denyer was out caught by Josh Bailey off Neil McDonald for 28.
Bamburgh’s bowlers stuck to their tasks and made inroads into the Pont batting, but were unable to dislodge Quarrell, who made an unbeaten 108 off 103 balls, which included 12 fours and one six in a final total off 183 for 8 off 35 overs. Bamburgh used seven bowlers and six of them each took one wicket.
When Bamburgh batted, they made a brilliant start, reaching 50 in the seventh over for one wicket. But the lack of depth in the batting saw the home side’s persistence beginning to take its toll and Bamburgh finished on 165 all out with one ball remaining in their innings.
Good knocks from Lawrence Reeves (66), Johnny Roxburgh (17) and Josh Bailey (24) were the highlights of the batting.
Ponteland’s skipper Neil Pinnock was the star bowler, taking 5-43, ably assisted by G Hunter with 3-22.
A much-improved performance from a scratch Bamburgh side.
Ponteland (183 for 8) beat Bamburgh Castle (165 all out) by 19 runs.
