Percy members ride tall at national level

Over the past couple of months, some members of the Percy Hunt Pony Club have seen a number of impressive achievements, taking them all over the country, including qualification for the prestigious Pony Club Championships held at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire between the 17th-25th August.

One of those competitors is Rachael Mellor from Alnwick riding Tyneside Blond in the Open Dressage Final, the most advanced dressage class at the championship.

After an impressive season which saw the Duchess Community High School student winning against experienced adults from all over Northumberland, Rachael qualified with a win at Area Dressage in June, catapulting her straight to the final.

Another Percy member who has seen a huge amount of success is Suzie Barwise-Munro who returned from her GB Tetrathlon team debut last year to win Area Tetrathlon yet again in the Open Girls. Suzie will be competing at the Tetrathlon Championships which are held separately from the main event on the 14th-16th August at Bishop Burton College, Yorkshire.

Alongside this, she competed in cross country events over the winter including the North Eastern and English National schools final coming 14th and 19th respectively.

The final Percy success story is Libby Chrisp aged 11 from Longhoughton who represented the U12 England team at the Pony Club Home International last weekend at Celyn polocrosse tournament near Wales.

She was selected back in May and travelled down to train with her team the week before, leading to a very successful team debut. Her team came second in the U12 category, helping England secure the title of the Quad Nations.

Libby will also be heading to the Pony Club Championships along with the eight other Percy Pony Club members to compete in the Junior, Open and Malden Cup finals.

We wish her, Suzie and Rachael the best of luck and hope they return with some silverware to add to their collections.
