PLAYERS and supporters of a north Northumberland cricket side pedalled for pounds, embarking on an 83-mile bike ride to raise funds for the club.

The money-making challenge saw the hardy souls of Rock Cricket Club travel from Berwick Cricket Club to Mitford Cricket Club on Easter Saturday.

Rock play in the Alnwick and District Cricket League and the ride took them from the league’s most northern club to its most southern, calling in at the league’s other sides – Wooler, Embleton, Warenford, Howick, Warkworth, Alnmouth & Lesbury and Tillside, as well as Rock – along the way.

Pedal power saw the gang complete the cycle in just under 10 hours.

The money will go towards helping to keep the club going and enabling it to move forward building plans to enhance the club further.

Also, during the off-season, and with the help of Rock Estates, the club has expanded its playing area beyond the small fence-lined boundary that has been in place for many years, to an open area that should give better viewing for supporters during the season, which should be ready to play on by the first home game on May 5.

Rock would like to thank supporters and sponsors for their kind donations during the bike ride and look forward to welcoming them during the coming season, which starts on Saturday, April 28, when they travel to Howick.
