On course to attract players back to the fairways

A NORTH Northumberland golf club is offering a free six-week adult golf course for new players or those looking to get back into the sport.

Alnwick Castle Golf Club is holding the sessions, which are provided by their affiliated PGA Professional Peter Ritchie.

The sessions are being funded by Northumberland County Golf Partnership and are open to anyone aged 16 years or older who is not a member of a golf club.

It is a fantastic opportunity for people to try something new or get back into a sport they used to enjoy and got out of the habit of playing. All equipment is provided and there is a relaxed dress code, meaning people can attend the sessions in jeans and trainers. Sessions start on Saturday, February 25 at 3pm (until 4pm) at Alnwick Castle Golf Club.

To book a place contact the club on 01665 602632.

The only stipulation is that you are not a member of a golf club.

The sessions at Rothbury and Percy Wood both take place on Saturday, February 18.

Lisa Ferrie, county development officer for the Northumberland County Golf Partnership, said: “The gym isn’t for everyone, but if your new year’s resolution was to get fit or try something new, why not try golf.

“This scheme means you can try it completely free; all equipment will be provided. It is a fantastic opportunity for people to try a new sport or get back into a sport they used to enjoy and got out of the habit of playing.

“I would encourage people to come along and try, it is a great way to meet people and participate in a low-impact sport.”

Other clubs holding sessions include Longhirst, on Sunday, February 5, and Matfen Hall on Thursday, February 9.
