Current club champion Stephen Keay delivered the first bowl to open the season at Seahouses Outdoor Bowling Club.

The club is actively seeking new members, particularly lady and younger members, but all are very welcome.

All prospective new members are allowed three, free two-hour trial sessions, all equipment provided.

A club spokesman said: “Don’t worry if you’ve never played before, we all had to start sometime.

“Come and have a go, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can get your bowls as close to the jack as the rest of us.

“Above all, come and have fun. It’s a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon or evening.”

The green is open all week, from 2pm to 4.30pm and 6.30pm to dusk (rink allocation 15 minutes earlier).

Fund-raising events this year are a dance (£5) at Seahouses Social Club at 8pm on May 24, and car boot sales at the Seahouses Sports and Community Centre on May 26, and August 24, 9am to noon.
