Alnwick Harriers

Seven Harriers lined up for the Druridge Bay Parkrun on Saturday and, for the second time in the 11 events so far, Rosie Murton turned in an impressive performance to finish as first female.

More than half of the first female finishers so far have been Alnwick Harriers.

However, first Harrier to finish was Adam Fletcher, who battled it out for the whole of the two laps of Ladyburn Lake, only to be pipped in a close race by Blyth RC’s Lee Cuthbertson.

Among the other finishers, Karl Baxter notched a massive pb on his return from injury.

Meanwhile, over in Cumbria, Richard Eastoe was first male 60 at the Workington Parkrun, while wife Gay also ran well once again.

Results – Druridge Bay: 2-Adam Fletcher 18.01; 15-Rosie Murton 20.59; 19-Andy Squires 21.23; 23-Graham Skirrow 22.06; 39-Tina Murton 24.23; 78-Karl Baxter 29.33; 86-Mark Hume 30.24.

Workington: 16-Richard Eastoe 22.20; 28-Gay Eastoe 24.43.

The following morning, 13 Harriers were up bright and early to travel down the A1 to take part in the Blackhill Bounders-organised Gibside Trail Race.

The course has been altered slightly in recent years and now comes in at an extended 6.75 miles. That means more hills for your money.

First Harrier home was Adam Spiller as 42nd of 437 runners, followed by Micky Aiston and Mark Doctor.

For the women, first across the line was Charlotte Baston.

Just over 90 seconds back was Tracey Sample, who was in her element in this relentlessly undulating race, followed by Samantha Fender.

The race was also notable for one of the fastest sprint finishes ever seen, by Carol Davison.

This was the last time Charlotte Baston and dad Phil will be seen in an Alnwick vest as the pair have now joined Elswick Harriers.

They have represented the club in well over 100 races since joining and will be greatly missed. Good luck at your new club.

Results: 42-Adam Spiller 49.18; 84-Micky Aiston 52.58; 124-Mark Doctor 55.10; 153-Charlotte Baston 56.47; 182-Tracey Sample 58.23; 198-Andrew Shell 59.01; 215-Phil Baston 59.47; 257-Samantha Fender 1.02.18; 281-Dave Coates 1.03.34; 312-Morag Donoghue 1.05.05; 322-Rachel McCoy 1.06.10; 360-Carol Davison 1.09.56; 395-Ron McCormack 1.15.11.

Back on Sunday, October 12, there was a superb performance by Dorset-based Harrier Clive Kennedy-Burn in the Studland Stampede, a tough 12k off-road race at the beautiful Studland Bay, near Poole. Clive’s parents were members of the club back in the early 1980s and Clive himself ran for us in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, before leaving.

Now a member once again, Clive finished third of the 448 runners in 46.41.

Fellow Harrier Emily Watson was 232nd in 1.09.05.

Back in August, Clive was also fourth in another race in the Purbeck Trail Race series, The Beast 12.5 Mile race.
