HEAVY showers took their toll on fixtures in the Johnnie Johnson Housing Alnwick and District Cricket League on Saturday, with two of the five matches eventually succumbing to the weather.
At Warenford, where Tillside were the visitors, there were three rain interruptions before a fourth flooded the field and play was abandoned with the hosts 43-3 after 15.3 overs in reply to Tillside’s 134 all out.
Liam Hindmarsh top-scored with 49 while Dan Patterson claimed 5-53.
The Embleton-Mitford game also fell victim to the weather with the latter 40-1 when play was called off for the day.
The remaining three fixtures were all completed and produced victories for Berwick, Wooler and Rock.
Rock were the biggest winners on the day, hammering local rivals Howick by 10 wickets, thanks to a partnership of 126 between Roddy Bell (64) and Bobby Dodds (50) in just 23.5 overs. Andrew Jamieson also showed good form with bat in an innings of 66 for Howick.
Mark Shearer was the man-of-the-match in Berwick’s 90-run victory over Warkworth, claiming 6-20, including a hat-trick, as the visitors were dismissed for 39. Shearer took four wickets in the over.
Alnmouth and Lesbury had Wooler on the ropes after dismissing them for 99 in just 24.5 overs but, in turn, found runs hard to come by and were themselves all out for 68 after 27.2 overs.
