A DEVASTATING display of bowling from Ulgham’s Chris Cowe saw him take four wickets in four balls in the Surridge Indoor Cricket League.
It proved to be a good day at the office for Ulgham, who opened their account with a victory over Chatton in their clash last Wednesday.
Batting first, Chatton posted a competitive 122 runs.
It could have been more, but for that performance with the ball from left-arm spinner Cowe, who bowled with flight and turn.
Max Renwick and Raj Lodh batted well for Chatton, building on the earlier work by team-mates John Dodds and Paul Douglas, who had given Ulgham a solid start.
In reply, Ulgham openers Phil Hornsey and Peter Wilson posted 50, although they were aided by some wayward bowling, while Jordan Cowe and Callum Lowes also batted well.
Some brilliant fielding from Harry Roberts, alongside some more consistent bowling, did bring Chatton back into the contest and Max Renwick took a late flurry of wickets.
But Peter Donkin helped Ulgham to victory, as they posted 138 and won by 16 runs.
The league is played at Alnwick’s Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre on Wednesday evenings and the second match of the night was due to pit Alnmouth against Warkworth.
But the contest was cancelled as the Castle Field outfit were unable to field a side, handing the points to Alnmouth.
The league continued last night when Rothbury played Chatton and Ulgham faced Alnwick.
On Wednesday, Warkworth play Rothbury at 7pm and Alnmouth take on Alnwick at 8pm.
