Second-half surge is just too little, too late

Alnwick and Boulmer 34 Berwick 49

Alnwick and Boulmer Netball Club played their third match of the season against Berwick at home.

It was a tough match against a strong and skilled side.

Berwick were quick off the mark and had a seven-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was even faster paced with excellent attacking and defending skills from both sides.

It was a high-scoring quarter but Berwick was up 30-17 at half-time.

Alnwick bounced back in the third quarter and the game was more evenly matched but Berwick still won the quarter 9-6.

With all to play for in the last part of the game, Alnwick came out strongly and equalled the skill and precision of the away side.

The shooters on both teams performed well under pressure and Alnwick’s centre court and defensive players made several key interceptions.

There was only one goal’s difference in the last quarter but it was too little, too late from the Alnwick side and Berwick won the match 49-34.

Player-of-the-match: Holly MacKenley (GD).

Team: Anne-Marie Imeson, Paula Archer (c), Kate Imeson, Holly MacKenley, Ruth Oldfield, Holly Eggleston, Karen Robinson, Rachel Convery, Tracy Boyd.

Alnwick and Boulmer Netball Club is sponsored by A&J Scott.
