Local sail pair set to compete in 12-day '˜Triangle' Race

Two sailors from North Northumberland are preparing to take to the water for the 2016 Triangle Race.

Chris Grey, of the Royal Northumberland YC, and John Dixon, from the Coquet Yacht Club, will compete in the 620-mile event, which runs over 12 days from June 12 to 24.

The Triangle is a double-handed challenge for yachts of 25ft or more. The event starts in Torbay and sees competitors race to Kinsale in Southern Ireland, then on to Treguier in Brittany, France, before returning back to Torbay.

Chris and John will compete in their boat Arrow, and they will spend at least two days in each port with the other crews.

“John and I have known each other for some time,” said Chris.

“We are both members of Alnwick Rugby Club and we are really looking forward to the race.”
