Alnwick

Last week kicked, or should that be teed off with the Tuesday nine-holer.

Fifteen players turned out and it was a photo finish between Keith Richardson and Jamie Black, with both players scoring 21pts and Keith just edging it on countback. Steve Barron was third, along with Marc Friar, who both returned scores of 19pts.

Next up was the Seniors’ Open 4BBB Stableford where David Kirkpatrick, from Burgham Park, who partnered our own Arthur Wheatcroft, clinched overall victory on countback. It was all Alnwick pairings in minor places. There were four twos, two from John Graham of Alnmouth Village, one from Roger Clark of Alnwick, and one for Terry Walker.

The Seniors’ Friday qualifying roll up was appropriately won by this year’s senior captain Dave Robinson with a creditable 39pts. Ray Straker was second with 35, and Tom Cape third with 34. There were only two twos on Friday and they both were achieved by John Pentleton.

On Sunday it was the Brewery Cup medal, run alongside the Dobson 20s Trophy for players with a handicap of 20 or over.

In the Brewery Cup the top three all came from the 4 O’Clockers. After leading the competition early on with a nett 70, Rod Henderson was dumped unceremoniously down to sixth place. The winner and man on the top of his game at the moment was Kevin Murphy, who shot a fabulous nett 65, which included no less than four birdies at the fifth, 10th, 15th and 16th holes.

Following only one behind in second place came Ritchie Robson, followed a further two back by Alan Black. This time the two twos man was Ian Bell, joined in the twos club by Kevin Murphy and Colin Donaldson.

Just to give him a mention, Carl Green’s card included a 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, but this was better than the three players who NR’d and the one who didn’t sign his card.

In the Dobson 20s Trophy, first place went to club captain Billy Brown with a nett 72, with Kenny Darlow and John Eeles following on second and third respectively with scores of 73 and 78.
