Winter League: Despite a frosty start to the morning, no less than 47 players turned out for week three of the popular winter league at Swansfield last Sunday. Tom Gregson warmed to the conditions best and carded a winning 39 points although it was only on countback from second-placed Neil Armstrong. Geordie Brown filled the third spot on the leaderboard one point behind the leading duo. In the Zecca Eclectic Challenge, Alan Dodd improved a massive 13 places to knock Cyril Jobson off the top, while Lawrie Stewart remains in third along with Malcolm Peart and Kenny Darlow. The Order of Merit sees Peter Lewis rise to the number one position and Jimmy Cookson, four places into second along with Steve Barron, who was leading, and Malcolm Peart. Seven players joined the twos club this week. The payout forecast is medium to low. There were three players who incurred the wrath of Barron’s axe so a quick handicap check is advised before commencement of play on Sunday for last week’s top three.

Winter League (week three): 1 T Gregson 39pts (on back nine); 2 N Armstrong 39; 3 G Brown 38.
