Rangers take the honours with slick, hard-fought display

Longhoughton U11 3 Alnwick U11 1

U11 La Liga One

Derby day in Northumberland went to Longhoughton, who took all the points with a professional display on home soil.

Both teams made solid starts with defences on top, however, it was the home side who settled first despite having an early goal disallowed for offside.

Alnwick struggled in midfield and it was Joe Eggleston who put Longhoughton in front on 12 minutes when finishing well from 12 yards, beating George Frewing in the Alnwick goal (1-0).

Alnwick kept up the fight and Joe Aynsley fired them level on 23 minutes from an impossible angle on the right which gave the keeper no chance (1-1).

Alnwick suffered a blow just before half-time when Tom Forster limped off and was replaced by Nathan Crombie.

However, Alnwick should have gone into the break ahead but Crombie fired wide from eight yards out.

The half ended 1-1.

Alnwick created few chances in the second half but equally Longhoughton struggled to break through a well-marshalled defence led impressively by man-of-the-match Harry Felton.

Pressure from the home team eventually paid dividends when Aidan McDougall shot past Frewing to give them a deserved lead (2-1).

Ross Edwards and Max Paige battled hard but Alnwick created little and it was Longhoughton who sealed the victory with a smart finish from Keiran Dover from 10 yards, making the final score 3-1.
