Newcastle increase bid for French star Debuchy

Newcastle United have raised their bid for Mathieu Debuchy as they look to finally seal the signing of the French star.

The club is attemping to push through the signing of long-time target Debuchy this week.

And it has increased its offer to £5m plus add-ons, according to respected French newspaper L’Equipe.

However, the bid still falls some way short of Lille’s valuation of the 27-year-old.

Newcastle, according to reports in France, previously had a bid of nearly £4m turned down by the French club.

United are said to be waiting for a response to their latest offer from Lille, who have already signed a replacement for the France international, Dibril Sidibe. The new bid reportedly includes a sell-on clause for the French club, which has placed a valuation of £6m on Debuchy.

Lille president Michel Seydoux has previously said: “Our price is £6m, because he is a quality player.”

Pardew is keen for the club to push through the rest of its transfer business as soon as possible, with the Premier League kick-off and a Europa League qualifier on the horizon.

Up to now, United have only signed young players, including 19-year-old defender Curtis Good, who joined this week from Melbourne Heart.

And it is yet to land any of its senior targets, among them FC Twente’s Douglas.
