MORpeth sunday league
Division Two
The harsh Northumbrian weather continues to play havoc with the playing schedule which will no doubt leave the fixtures secretary scratching his head well into the new year.
The first game was an unscheduled encounter between North End Trap Broomhill and current league leaders Riverside Lodge on an artificial pitch hired by North End manager Keith Morley.
Without his efforts and both sides’ willingness to play, no Division Two games would have occurred this weekend and the league, plus the fixtures secretary as well no doubt, would like to thank both teams for this.
The game was a high-scoring affair with Riverside Lodge triumphing 7-3 and they remain top of the table, six points ahead of Bomarsund having played three games more.
Dan Thompson was once again the dangerman for the Riverside, scoring four, and he comfortably tops the division’s scoring charts. The other goals were scored by Darren Percy (two) and Chris Martin. On target for North End Trap were Peter Godfrey, Luke Baston and ex-Barrington Arms striker Kev Chapman.
Dobfar Cup
In the only other game of the day, Alnmouth Argyle progressed to the semi-finals of the cup beating River Coquet 6-0 thanks to a Rory Wood brace and solitary efforts from Jordan Frost, James Thorpe, Dan Humphrey and David Curry.
