Glendale League U14s 4 Longhoughton Rgrs U14s 4

A Glendale League Representative team came face to face with an experienced Longhoughton Rangers team on Saturday, January 12.

The Glendale team were playing their first match and were made up of players from Alnmouth, Berwick, Lowick, Rothbury, Seahouses and Wooler.

The game started off with lots of Longhoughton pressure, but the Glendale League team took the lead after Buster Briggs made a penetrating run into the area, before being brought down for a clear penalty.

The Glendale captain Connor Armstrong stepped up to score in the bottom left corner (1-0).

Shortly afterwards, with Longhoughton regrouping, Glendale doubled their lead, when a mistake by the Longhoughton goalkeeper left the ball at Lee Heath’s feet to score an easy tap-in (2-0).

The Glendale team looked more confident as a unit, but Longhoughton replied with two quick goals from Josh Turnball and Sam Wright to level the match (2-2).

Chances were plentiful and just before half-time Glendale retook the lead.

The Longhoughton goalkeeper came to the edge of the penalty area, making a brave block, but the ball ran to Josh Hall who took the ball back into the penalty area and shot into the bottom corner (3-2).

The second half started with lots of Longhoughton pressure, but, on the break Glendale scored again (4-2).

A high ball was put across the penalty area and full-back Kieran Joyce came around the back to score.

Longhoughton were now piling on the pressure and pulled two goals back through Josh Turnball and Evan McKewan, with the equalising goal being scored five minutes before the end (4-4).

Both teams looked for a winner and either could have won the match.

It finished 4-4, which was the right result as neither team deserved to lose.

All the Glendale team played very well, but man-of-the-match was given to Kieran Joyce for his hard work up and down the right touch-line, which was finished off with the fourth goal.

The Glendale League would like to thank Longhoughton Rangers for their great hospitality and giving them a very good match.
