FC Amble Juniors U16 1 Newcastle East End U16 0
U16 Division Two
Having played East End earlier in the season, winning 0-2 away from home with a depleted squad due to suspension, injuries and sickness, Amble had a full squad from which to choose for the home game.
On another windswept day, Amble opted to defend against the wind in the first half.
Just like last week, the whole team defended well and limited East End to very little in the way of clear-cut chances.
Amble were the best team going forward, playing some great football.
Amble’s front two of Batey and Briggs worked their socks off, giving little time for the East End defence to play out from the back.
James Oliver looked impressive again on the left wing going forward.
His defensive duties earned him a well-deserved man-of-the-match performance.
Ali Batey had time in the penalty area to strike the ball first time, however he took a touch and closed down.
Callum Fenwick, who worked hard throughout on the right wing, had a good chance with a looping curling shot going across the face of goal – and inches wide.
Jason Imeson and Brad Little controlled the midfield with Little getting his shot away on target that was blocked by East End.
In the second half, Callum Fenwick floated in a dangerous corner towards the far post, but with no one attacking the ball, it went out for a goal kick.
Amble were then awarded a penalty midway through the half, after a good run by Josh Briggs into the penalty area.
He was brought down by East End’s defender.
Ali Batey stepped up and struck the ball well, only for the keeper to get his hand to the ball. It then dropped to the floor for him to gather.
Going into the last few minutes of the game, Amble kept on pushing forward with Shayne Wright making a good run down the right wing, cutting in towards the penalty area.
He squared the ball for Jason Imeson who hit a first-time shot that burst the back of the net for a well-deserved victory.
