Brick Club cruise to comfortable win

There were only two games played in Division One of the Morpeth Sunday League this week as the majority of the division’s clubs were in county cup action.

Red Row Brick Club recorded a comfortable 6-0 home victory against Amble Dock Hotel. On the scoresheet for Red Row were Liam Ramsey with two and one each from Reece Ramsey, Sean Palmer, Craig Keen and John Charlton.

This victory moves them up to third in the table on goal difference after a patchy start to the campaign, they have, however, played two games more than their closest challengers Ashington RAOB.

In a clash between the division’s bottom two clubs Morpeth Chantry recorded a hefty 9-1 win against Village Inn Longframlington.

Ryan Murphy notched a hat-trick with the remaining goals coming from Kyle Richardson (two) Steven Young (two) Liam Marshall and Robert Wilkinson. The Village’s consolation goal was scored by Craig Speight.

Only one game was played in Division Two this week as Felton’s game against Bomarsund was postponed due to the weather and the rest of the division’s clubs were involved in Dobfar Cup games.

Shakespeare Tavern logged a good 4-2 win against North End Trap thanks to strikes by Steven Kay, Dale Wilkinson, Dylan McClean and ex-Barrington Arms hard-man Liam Chirnside. The North End Trap goals were scored by Chris Godfrey and Josh Baston.

Round One of the Dobfar Cup was also played this weekend with three games taking place.

Alnmouth Argyle recorded a good away victory against Blackthorn Rovers progressing to the next round with a 3-1 win.

On target for the Argyle were Mickey Hall, Chris Chisholm and Kieran Hogg, got the goal of the game with a screamer from 35 yards out. Blackthorn’s consolation was netted by Mark Collins.

East Chevington got back to winning ways by defeating Amble Blue Bell 5-2 with Gary Reid grabbing four of the goals, the other strike coming from David Gowan. John Spiers notched a brace for Amble Blue Bell in reply.

In the cup’s final game of the day Dan Thompson again proved to be the dangerman for Riverside Lodge scoring a hat-trick as they defeated Northumberland HMP 3-1. The consolation goal for HMP was scored by Mick Dishman.
