Boss believes in Town survival
Alnwick Town boss Paul Yeadon believes ‘100 per cent’ that his struggling side can avoid relegation this season, despite being bottom of the table.
The St James’ Park side have endured a poor start to the campaign and have their work cut out if they are to salvage their Northern League Division Two status.
Two 4-0 defeats in the space of four days – including a loss to West Allotment Celtic (WAC) on Tuesday night – have not helped the black ‘n’ whites’ cause.
But Yeadon insists that his Town troops can haul themselves to safety.
“It is a long season and there are plenty of points to play for,” he said.
“I believe 100 per cent that we can survive but we have got to work hard and stick together both on and off the pitch.
“It is hard times but if we stay together I am sure we can come through it and get some wins under our belt.”
But victories have been hard to come by for Town so far this term, with defeats becoming an unwelcome habit.
And they fell to their 13th league loss of the season on Tuesday, going down to WAC.
Two goals in each half helped the Tyneside outfit to a comfortable victory at St James’ Park.
Marc Allen bundled in the visitors’ first after 20 minutes before Ian Dunn headed in from a free-kick shortly after.
Alnwick felt they should have had a first-half penalty when Kieran Hogg was brought down in the box, but nothing was given.
WAC put the game beyond Town’s reach just after the hour mark with two goals in as many minutes.
David Dormand scored the third on 64 minutes before Dean Lee bagged the fourth.
It was the second time in a matter of days that Town were on the wrong side of a 4-0 defeat, having lost on Saturday to relegation rivals Stokesley Sports Club (report on p71).
