Lowick travelled over 250 miles on Sunday to record a fine away win against last year’s league runners-up California Ladies.

Lowick started strongly with pressure right from the off with M Stewart going close after three minutes. A slightly altered team, with Rowan replacing Darcy, who missed the game due to illness, looked to keep possession to negate the strong wind in their faces.

Every time California got the ball, they looked to play through the thirds quickly with the ball over the top being the favoured option. This was dealt with magnificently by centre-backs Bolton and G Thompson.

Lowick took the lead in the 24th minute with a sliding finish from Patterson, following up a shot that was superbly saved from the flying wing-back J Robinson (0-1).

Ten minutes later, Lowick doubled their advantage with M Stewart scoring after a mazy run from Robyn Stewart, who was playing her last game before joining the RAF (0-2).

On 36 minutes, J Patterson scored her second after another shot from J Robinson was again saved by the keeper (0-3).

J Robinson made her third assist with three minutes of the half remaining, M Stewart profiting from a slide-rule pass to make it (0-4).

The second half was a quieter affair with Lowick taking the sting out of the game by keeping the ball. J Patterson scored her hat-trick goal that was created by a superb defence-splitting pass from Rowan after good work from captain Tang (0-5).

With two minutes remaining California scored a consolation goal after a great run and shot that curled into the corner of the net, giving keeper Darling no chance (1-5).

Player-of-the-match: Jenny Patterson. Lowick United are at home on Sunday against the tough Durham Wildcats, kick-off 2pm. Supporters welcome.
