Two centuries set Embleton up for big win in county league

The double ton helped their side to beat Corbridge 2nds in the third division, whilst Berwick 2nds picked up their first win of the season in division one.

In the Premier League, Tillside could only field 10 players for their match at home to Blue Flames but still managed to record a 121 run victory.

Tillside won the toss and elected to bat. The early going proved to be a tough struggle as the Etal side couldn’t score quickly thanks to accurate bowling from the visitors.

Liam Hindmarsh was doing the main scoring but received support from Jack Bagness, Ross Hindmarsh and Law Atkinson. However, it was when Jake Birkett came to the wicket that Tillside took control. Hindmarsh and Burkett shared a 93 run partnership before Hindmarsh departed for a magnificent 92. Birkett carried his bat for 81 as Tillside finished on 243-4.

Tillside then produced a polished performance with the ball. Birkett claimed three wickets but at the other end Ben Toulson bowled tight lines to create pressure which resulted in a couple of wickets.

It was then left to the spin twins Cameron McGregor and Alan Hindmarsh to wipe out they tail as the both picked up two wickets as BLue Flames were bowled out for 122.

Warkworth had a comfortable seven wicket home win over Ulgham in the Premier Division.

Colin Tait hit 48 and Adam Tait 30 as Ulgham posted 163 all out, with William Pringle taking a superb 7-22 off 11 overs.

In reply, Warkworth eased their way to 166-3 with Stephen Dargue on 76 and Keith Douglas on 46.

Warenford went down to a six wicket home defeat at the hands of Stobswood.Waren were all out for only 105 (24 of which were extras), with Michael Thompson their top scorer on 23. Michael Beverley and Anthony Wingfield each claimed four wickets apiece.

In reply, Stobswood eased to 106-4 with Michael Marshall on 31 and Richard Marshall on 26 not out.

In the second division, Embleton had a good 125-run home win over Corbridge 2nds.

Phil Gray hit a superb 148 and team-mate Matthew Leetham 107 as they put on 319-5 in their 40 overs.

Anthony Brown hit 91 for Corbridge in reply, but they were all out for 194 with Scott Lawson taking 3-45.

Tillside 2nds had an eight wicket win away to Stobswood.

With Daniel Watson hitting 51, Stobswood were all out for 106, with Davie Robertson taking 5-15 and Calum Bickerton 40-10.

Jamie Pick then hit an unbeaten 64 as Tillside responded with 107-2.

In division three Wooler were awarded maximum points after Civil Service conceded the fixture at short notice.

Rock beat Warkworth 2nds by 76 runs.

Kevin Wilson hit 77 for Rock, and with Oliver Page on 43 and Adam Dunn on 36 they managed to put on 207-6 in their 40 overs.

It was always a tall run rate to ask the warkworth bats to match, and so it was, with Luke Napier putting up most resistence, his 59 niot out helping Warkworth to 130 all out in reply.

Wilson and Paul Roberts each claimed three wickets for the home side.

Howick, Alnmouth and Lesbury went down to a 20 run defeat at the hands of Gateshead EM. The home side put on a big score of 213-7 off their 40 overs, with Irfan Ullah on 64 and Ijaz Khan on 53.

The majority of the Alnmouth batsmen were in the runs, with Evan Moir top-scoring on 56, but they came up short, finishing on 193-7.
