Juniors hold their nerve for semi spot

Benwell Hill U13 (97-5) v Alnmouth & Lesbury U13 (101-7)

A solid team performance gave Alnmouth & Lesbury U13s a three-wicket victory at Benwell Hill in the Northumberland ECB Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

Benwell Hill scored 97-5 from 20 overs, with Max Williamson (25) and Da Saram (24) leading the charge.

The pick of the Alnmouth bowlers was Tom Harrop, with 2-6 from four overs, while Nick Robertson bowled well, conceding three runs in three overs.

Alnmouth were up against it with the bat early on as county fast bowler Luke Mussett dismissed George Lindley and Roberston with only 15 on the board.

But Joe Tudor and Archie Elder put together a partnership of 58 before Tudor retired on 31 – with 26 of these coming from boundaries.

Benwell’s Max Williamson hit back, taking four quick wickets.

Elder retired on 30, but when Cameron Thorpe was out for five, a nail-biting finish was in place. Harry Milham and Dan Phillips showed nerves of steel though and added the final nine runs to win the match and maintain Alnmouth’s unbeaten start to the season with six wins from six games.
