Double win for Alnwick sides in Senior League

The home side won the toss and invited Alnwick to bat. Skipper Scott fell early but Brewis and Threlfall steadied the ship with a stand of 92 before they were both dismissed in quick succession for 34 and 58 respectively.

Threlfall had four sixes in his innings including one through the roof of a nearby house.

The middle order stuttered a little and Alnwick found themselves 148-8. However, some stout work from Wright, Roxburgh and Bateman saw Alnwick post a competitive 184-9 in their 50 overs.

Greenside’s reply was steady but a regular fall of wickets meant Alnwick were always in control and none of the home batsmen were ever really set to make a big score.

Roxburgh was the pick of the Alnwick attack with figures of 5 for 22 in his 9.5 overs while Wright and Scott chipped in with 2 wickets each and Bateman picked up the other. Greenside were eventually all out for 125.

This was another solid performance from a youthful team who can hopefully build on the promise they are showing.

Alnwick 2nds had a 62-run victory in the reverse fixture between the sides.

Alnwick batted first and with Bradley Spiers on 37 not out and W Smith on 32, they managed to put on 158 all out in 36 overs.

James hayden and I Murray each took three wickets for Greenside, who in reply struggled to cope with the bowling of Michael Kirkup.

He took 5-22 in seven overs, which meant the visitors were allm out for 96, with the bulk of their runs coming from opener Ryan Karen on 29 and P Brown, down at number eight, with 24.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 1sts put up a gallant fight before going down by only five runs away to Stocksfield.

A knock of 42 from Andrew Wood was the mainstay of the innings for the home side, who went on to post 170 all out, with Stephen Henderson their next best on 26.

Jhy Berry took 4-26 from his 12 overs, which included six maidens.

Russell Hughes then hit 47 for Alnmouth, who also saw a decent knock of 33 from Tom Vickers.

But sadly they were just not up with the run rate, and fell short at 165 all out.

Emerson Brown and Luke Duneathy both claimed three wickets apiece for Stocksfield.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds hosted Ponteland 2nds when they went down to a 31 run defeat.

Opener John Lumb top scored with 40 as the visitors put on 142-9 with Paul Gerrard giving the best support on 32.

Alex Robson with 3-15 was Alnmouth’s most successful bowler.

In reply, Alnmouth lost three early wickets and were struggling after that.

Andrew Hodgson tried to steady the ship with a knock of 43, but the Ponteland bowlers kept it tight and with Nick Brown taking 3-26 they were reduced to 111 in less than 35 overs.
