Big wins for Alnwick and Alnmouth 1sts

Alnwick's good start to the season continued on Saturday with a resounding nine wicket win over Stocksfield in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first. The opening pair seemed to vindicate that decision by putting on 50 before Alan Straker removed them both in the 12th over.

The third wicket added 20 before Scott and Wright stemmed the flow of runs and between them took 7 for 20. Bateman mopped up the final wicket to see Stocksfield all out for 100.

Alnwick’s reply started briskly before Brewis was dismissed for 9 with the score on 22.

This brought Threlfall to the crease and he hit a breezy 49 not out including eight fours and two sixes.

With Scott continuing his good form with the bat (44 not out) Alnwick knocked the runs off in 19.2 overs to complete an excellent victory.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 1sts had a big ten wicket winat home against Bates Cottages.

Ross Symington hit 37 for the visitors and Paul Baston 22, but they were all out for 121 in 38 overs with Nicholas Denton claiming 4-32 for the home side.

In reply, Alnmouth reached their target without the loss of a single wicket, with openers Russell Hughes and Paul Straker hitting 64 and 55 respectively.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds went down by 79 runs on their visit to Swalwell.

Home opener Sam hedley hit an impressive 104, and with Lee Whitfield on 43 the home side managed tom register210-5 in their 45 overs.

Rich neil, with 2-42, was Alnmouth’s most successful bowler.

Brian Brooks then hit 72 for Alnmouth in reply, , but with darren Gray (21) the only other bat in double figures, they struggled to 131 with hedley doing most damage with the ball, returning 5-14.

In a low scoring match, Alnwick 2nds lost by 22 runs when they faced Stocksfield 2nds away.

Perry hall hit 46 for the home side who managed 94-9 in 28 overs, matthew Dixon taking an impressive 6-6.

G Shiel hit 26 for Alnwick, but they were all out for only 72 in the 28th over with Hall and aaron Rourke both claiming three wickets for Stocksfield.
