Big influx of new members for club

Alnwick Bowling Club

Alnwick Bowling Club had a major success in attracting new members during the year, it was reported to the 136th annual meeting on Friday night by secretary David Quean.

A taster session had attracted 14 new members, 12 men, one lady and one social member, to one of the oldest bowling clubs in the country.

The weather had a major impact on the season with eight friendly games having to be cancelled.

He thanked all who had helped the club during the season including the green staff, the ladies’ committee and other officials.

Treasurer Russ Dale reported a slight loss on the year after depreciation but cash in the bank had increased by over £1,000.

Members agreed to increase subscriptions by £2 to £77 while new members will pay £40.

It was also agreed that in future the players taking part in the Monday night jumbles will be able to decide after the draw in which order they can play, the Beatty pairs will be played off in one day and the TE Hall triples qualifiers will be played over two Sundays instead of four.

The move to introduce a new triples competition on a Thursday night was rejected.

Officials elected were as follows: There were no nominations for president or vice president; immediate past president Michael Grant; secretary David Quean; treasurer Russ Dale; match secretary George Batey; ladies secretary Sylvia Taylor; green ranger George Turner; bar chairman David Quean.
