Young triathletes set to converge on Druridge

Dozens of young triathletes from all over the north of England are about to descend on Druridge Bay in Northumberland as Alnwick Junior Triclub prepares to hold its first ever Junior Triathlon this Sunday (July 3).

Around 100 youngsters have registered to take part in the inaugural event which will include an open water swim in Ladyburn Lake followedby a bike ride and run through the park.

The first race (Tristar 1) is due to get underway at 7.30am with the older triathletes following on behind.

The last race (Youths) is expected to finish by around 11am.

Northumberland County Council has kindly given permission for the club to use the park for the event which will also mean that the rear access road into the park will be closed until about 11am on Sunday morning so the children can compete safely.

A team of parents have been working for months planning the event, and would love to see people from all over the region come along and support the children.

Alnwick Junior Tri club started just four years ago with just two members but now has more than 30 members and a waiting list.

Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in Britain and the organisers of this weekend’s event hope it’ll encourage others to give the sport a try.
