That’s just champion for jumper Emma
Victory in a triple-jump competition proved to be the icing on the birthday cake for Emma Pringle – taking the title just three days after turning 21.
The Alnwick athlete notched a first-place finish in the senior women’s event at the Northern Athletics Indoor Championships, in Sheffield, on Sunday.
Gateshead Harrier Pringle clinched the win with a jump of 12.49m, in what was her first competition of 2013.
Pringle, who attends university in Newcastle, is aiming to break the 13-metre barrier this year and she admits her recent efforts in South Yorkshire have put her in good stead for the campaign ahead.
She said: “It was a very successful, solid start to the season and it shows promise for the rest of the year.
“If I can jump 12.49m at the start of the indoor season, then it will be interesting to see what I can jump by the end of the year.”
Pringle wants to grab a place at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Her next major competition is the British Athletics European Trials and UK Championships, in Sheffield, in February.
