Alnwick Harriers

The Scottish National Indoor Open on Saturday saw hundreds of athletes of all ages taking part in a packed day of sport in the first Scottish Athletics event to be held at the new Emirates Arena, the venue for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Competing in the IAAF U16 category, Alnwick Harriers’ 14-year-old Peter Skirrow competed in the 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump.

Unfortunately, due to an overlap of events, Peter was unable to complete his high-jump competition, as he had to dash off for his hurdles race. However, his run of clear jumps up to 1m 40cm before he left was sufficient to secure third place in his age category.

In his hurdles event, he matched his pb of 10.97 seconds, which was enough for fourth place. And in his long-jump competition, a leap of 4m 56cm saw him through to another third place.

l All 1,170 places in the Northumberland Coastal Run, sponsored by Eclipse Translations, were snapped up in record time this weekend. Entries for the popular 14-mile race from Beadnell to Alnmouth opened at midnight on Saturday and closed when the last place was taken about 30 hours later.

More information on the race and race-day instructions for all participants will appear at www.alnwickhar riers.co.uk over the next few months. The race, on Sunday, July 14, starts at 10am.

If you missed out on the Coastal Run then don’t despair as Alnwick Harriers have just opened entries for the Les Allcorn 10k and Junior Fun Run on Tuesday, May 7, in Hulne Park, with the junior event kicking off at 6.30pm and the senior race at 7.30pm.
