Junior Harriers shine in the sun at North of Tyne Network Meet

The Under 12s turned out in force and produced some excellent results.

In the middle distance races there were some confident performances, with several of the athletes adopting a more ‘aggressive’ start to their races which produced some positive results.

Olivia Temple and Erin Belisle (Y5) both ran well and finished third and fourth in their 600m race with the same time of 2.21. In the boys Y5 race Billy Clayton set off hard, maintained his pace and managed to complete the race in second position with a personal best time of 2.09.

The Y4 races were equally competitive with Evie Godden and Alfie Temple doing well. Lauren Brown (Y6) ran a brave race pushing hard right from the start, pacing herself superbly and finishing the last 200m with ‘awe inspiring’ speed.

Lauren won the 800m race in a personal best time of 2.37 and set a new club record by over 6 seconds!

The Batley brothers lead the charge in the howler throw. Ruaridh won the Y3 boys competition with a throw of over 28m and Gregor managed to break the 35m barrier with his throw winning the Y6 category.

There were other excellent performances from Lauren Brown, who won her competition (CR of 28.76) and Talia Thompson was runner up with 20.11m. Finlay Telfer was runner up to Gregor and managed a personal best throw of 27.17m.

Erin Belisle had another excellent result in the 75m sprint finishing in third place. Both Lauren and Billy won their races setting new club record times of 15.2s (100m) and 11.8s for 75m. Euan Friend running in his first race this season came third.

Leila Thompson (Y3) competed well in the long jump, smiled lots and was certainly the most enthusiastic athlete of the day!

It was a record turn out on Sunday of over 80 athletes for this well organised NOTAN event. The juniors had a superb time, achieved several club records and numerous personal best performances.

There was a brilliant turnout of Harriers at the Wallsend Harriers organised Gordon Smith Memorial Relays on Wednesday.

On a brand new and much flatter course than previously 27 members donned the club vests to form teams of 3, battling out with other clubs from throughout the north east.

There were some top class performances, with the Womens A team finishing 7th of the ladies teams, whilst the Mens A team were 13th of 137 teams overall.

The fastest Harriers on the night were Phil Hemsley and Peter Moralee who both clocked 10.58 for their 2.2 mile legs, whilst for the ladies Ella Brown ran 11.46 and Kim Redpath 13.29. At present there is a mistake in the results, as it shows Michael Cairns running one of the fastest legs overall on the night. Michael is quick but not that quick! However, a special mention should go to Michael. En route he had a blow out on the A1 and it was only a tyre change which Lewis Hamilton would have been happy with which enabled him to get the start in time!

21-Mens “B” Team-Terry Fountain 11.40, Dean Stackhouse 11.39 and Peter Moralee 10.58. Overall 34.17.

38-Mens “C” Team-Graham Crow 12.29, Michael Cairns 10.18 (?) and Tim Falconer 13.53 (?). Overall 36.40.

50-Mens “D” Team-Jon Duffy 12.49, Mark Doctor 13.00 and Gary Cowell 12.57.
