* A brilliant 18 Harriers took part in the last of the Spring/Summer Relays on a warm and sunny evening last Wednesday, the Weetslade Relay. This event, organised by Claremont Road Runners and held at Lockey Park in Wideopen, is different to the previous relay events in that its not flat!

The 2.5 mile course takes in an old slag heap as well as grass sections, rather than the dead flat courses at the Elswick and Wallsend Harriers events.

Alnwick took the maximum number of places available, putting out six teams, which is more than they have done previously.

On a very good night for the club they had their highest ever finish at the event, thanks to the A team trio of Richard Johnson, Ella Brown and Phil Hemsley, who finished eighth of the 96 teams.

On the night Phil ran the fastest leg, a very impressive 14.24. Next quickest was Richard in 15.11 and Dean Stackhouse in 15.31 for the B team.

Ellas time of 15.36 was the sixth fastest by a female on the night, an excellent performance. Second fastest female for the club was Tracey Sample in 18.54, followed three seconds later by Diana Weightman.
