Five Harriers battled it out in the Norman Woodcock Memorial Five Mile race, organised by Elswick Harriers, on Saturday, November 24.

The race consists of a very flat three laps on the ambulance track inside Newcastle Racecourse.

This, coupled with slightly chilly but dead still conditions, meant that there were some good times posted by all those taking part.

Peter Grey continued his recent fine form by finishing first Harrier, third male 50 (no male 55 category sadly) and 50th overall in 29.45.

Jim Lillico, still cock-a-hoop from winning the 2012 Grand Prix, improved on last year’s time in the same race by well over a minute, while there were five-mile PBs for Mark Doctor and Phil Lee.

There was also a decent five-mile debut for the fast-improving Annabel Lillico.

Results: 50-Peter Grey 29.45; 79-Jim Lillico 31.27; 117-Mark Doctor 34.17; 155-Annabel Lillico 37.37; 160-Phil Lee 37.56.

Earlier that day, three Harriers donned their ice skates and skidded round the Town Moor in the Newcastle Parkrun. There was an extremely impressive Parkrun debut for 15-year-old Junior Harrier Daniel Leng who finished 14th of 308 runners in 18.19, showing what a bright future he has. Daniel is joint fifth quickest of the 41 Harriers who have competed at the event.

Results: 14-Daniel Leng 18.19; 175-Phil Baston 25.08; 191-Charlotte Baston 25.38.

Finally that day, Gay and Richard Eastoe flew the Harriers flag in Cumbria, taking part in the hilly Ravenstonedale Red 10k, organised by Sedbergh-based club Howgill Harriers.

The pair ran together finishing in 144th and 145th in 57.03 and 57.04.

Well done to club secretary Jim Lillico for winning the 2012 Alnwick Harriers Grand Prix, holding off the challenge of second-place Bruce Crombie. John Ross, Mark Miller and Cris Atwell were next followed by the first female Harrier, Mairi Campbell.

Trophies for the top-12 finishers will be presented at this Saturday’s Christmas party. Full results can be found at www.alnwickharriers.co.uk
