ALNWICK Lions 43 Whitley Bay Rockcliffe II 10
Alnwick started the game brightly against an unbeaten Rockcliffe team.
Play was swept up into the Whitley Bay half before a knock on resulted in a Whitley Bay scrum which the Alnwick pack won against the head.
Number eight, and guest captain this week Neill, picked up from the base and charged through only to be held up a yard short.
Ball was recycled to Bremner, who with his trademark step inside went in under the posts. (5-0).
Bremner converted his own try. (7-0).
Alnwick again thundered up into away territory before the Rockcliffe number five went blatantly offside to break up the attack.
Bremner kicked the penalty into the corner with the Lions not settling for an easy three points.
Matthewson won the line-out and the pack set up a great rolling maul that Rockcliffe could do little about with Thompson eventually going over to score. (12-0). Missed conversion.
Alnwick collected the restart and bombed forward again through their forwards, a great pick up of his toes from Bremner had him feed the Horse who jinked through from 10 for another try. (17-0).
Bremner converted 19-0 for a half-time lead.
All credit to Rockcliffe who started the second half in fired up fashion.
The first 20 minutes remained even stevens before Bremner threaded through a grubber kick for winger Telfer to latch onto up the right flank; quick ball was spread right across the pitch for the other Alnwick winger Pratt to race in and score in the opposing corner. (24-0).
Bremner converted from touchline. (26-0).
Another Alnwick attack looked like ending in another score only for the ball to be pinched off the floor, the fly half then sent an enormous kick right up the pitch and with a sprint finish the Whitley Bay full-back won to touchdown for a try. (24-5). Missed conversion.
Rockcliffe were caught offside but an excellent advantage was played by the referee and prop Lundy barrelled down the blindside then offloaded to Bremner, quick hands through Horsley and Taylor to White to score. (31-5). Missed conversion.
A great sniping run by Roberts set up Big Willie Thwaites to rumble in from all of one yard to score. (36-5). Bremner converted. (38-5).
A rare Rockcliffe attack had them a scrum 10 metres out, the Alnwick pack shunted them in the scrum but the number eight did very well in getting rid of the ball quickly to the backs with their centre strolling through two very soft tackles to score. (38-10). Missed conversion.
An angry Alnwick pack won the restart and an absolute barn storming run by prop Clayton had him charge in from 30 metres out to finish the scoring.
