WINNER: Jonny Burn – Rugby

LOCAL sporting stars and volunteers were honoured at the Alnwick and District Sports Council Annual Awards Night.

The prestigious ceremony took place at Alnwick Playhouse on Saturday evening.

Jonny Burn was named Junior Male of the Year at the event.

The year saw Jonny develop in the world of rugby. In 2010, he managed to get his hands on the No 10 shirt for England U16s, following a string of training camps and trials.

The national side travelled out to Rome at Easter to take part in a Four Nations Tournament against Wales, France and Italy and Jonny was presented with his England cap.

He played in the defeat against France and the victory against Italy – a game in which he kicked a conversion.

Jonny is currently playing first team rugby for Sedbergh School while still being part of the Newcastle Falcons Academy.

The teenager could not attend the awards evening because of school commitments, but his mum, who collected the award on his behalf, said: “He will be thrilled to bits.”
