WINNER: Emma Pringle – Hockey/triple jump

LOCAL sporting stars and volunteers were honoured at the Alnwick and District Sports Council Annual Awards Night.

The prestigious ceremony took place at Alnwick Playhouse on Saturday evening.

Gifted Emma lifted the Junior Female accolade for the second year in a row and admitted: “I am over the moon.”

The 19-year-old plays hockey for North East England and she won an Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2010 County Hockey Awards Evening.

In Athletics, she represented the England U20s team and was selected for the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes scheme in the triple jump.

Her achievements in the discipline during 2010 included gaining her second England vest, achieving a bronze medal in the English Athletics Championships and grabbing silver in the English Schools’ Final.

She also set a senior league record at the Northern Senior League Match, with a distance of 12.33m.

Emma could not attend Saturday’s award ceremony as she was representing England U20s at the Celtic Indoor Cup at the weekend, where she helped the nation win a gold medal. Women’s Captain Emma won the triple jump and bettered her 2010 win with an indoor personal best of 11.98m.
