LOCAL sporting stars and volunteers were honoured at the Alnwick and District Sports Council Annual Awards Night.

Fifteen-year-old Steph is a member of the Percy Hunt Pony Club and was part of its tetrathlon team that came second in the Open Girls UK Championships.

The South Charlton teen is currently ranked fifth in the country for girls’ tetrathlon and has been invited to apply for a place at Millfield School for a training course, from where the Great Britain team for 2011 will be selected.

She was also on the winning Northern England regional team and was second placed individual at the event, among other highlights.

After being named joint winner of the award, Steph said: “I wasn’t expecting to win. And to win it with Sam is even better.”

Sam achieved three national medals, including his first national gold medal.
