Athlete Jo Gascoigne-Owens continued her blistering form with an impressive showing in a major event.

Jo, who has performed well for Alnwick Harriers and Alnwick Tri Club this year, was first lady home in the ITU World Aquathlon Championship Qualifier 2013 at Hetton Lyons Park on May 25.

She completed the 750m lake swim and 5k run in just under 30 minutes.

Jo was fifth out of the water in 11min 08sec, 23 seconds behind the leader, and ran through a top-quality field which included semi-professional triathletes.

The 5k was run in 17min 57sec, and she won by nine seconds.

The victory gave her qualification to the World Aquathlon Championships, in London in September.

To qualify for the GB team, the athlete has to be within 115 per cent of the time of the winner.

Her winning time was so fast that of the possible seven places available for the GB team, only two other females in her 30-34 age category managed the time cut-off to qualify.

Jo has always been a good swimmer and a good runner, but she has made major improvements in her running as her results for both Alnwick Harriers and the Tri Club prove. A day after her Hetton Lyons Park efforts, she was second overall and first woman in the Druridge Bay 10k.
