ALNWICK Premier Darts League (APDL) Singles Champion Ian Tate battled through a strong field to win the second Peter Braidford Memorial Cup.
Entrants included a smattering of County players plus the top players from the APDL.
The competition was played at The Alnwick Gate on Saturday and an impressive showing at the oche saw an array of 180s and ton-plus finishes.
Last year’s winner, Peter Saunders, came a valiant second, playing outstanding darts throughout the day, but he was unable to match the firepower of triumphant Ian Tate.
Kevin Fletcher, from the APDL, thanked everyone for turning up and playing spectacular darts, and thanked Peter’s sister Joan for presenting the cup and the prize money.
On Friday night, APDL teams were in league action.
In Division A, Blue Bell A defeated The George 5-2, Alnwick Gate A beat Gate B 6-1, and Farriers edged out John Bull 4-3, while Bell Bar B versus Fleece will be played on Sunday.
In Division B, there were narrow wins for The Hotspur, Oddies A and The Market Tavern, who all recorded 4-3 victories.
The Hotspur defeated Shilbottle Club, Oddies A beat Alnwick Working Mens Club (AWMC) B, and the Tavern edged out Alnwick Gate C.
Things weren’t as close in the clash between Alnwick Castle Golf Club A and AWMC A, with the latter taking the honours 6-1.
