A cycle ride has brought widespread praise from the hundreds of riders who took part.
Almost 500 cyclists rode out of Wooler on Saturday morning, taking in either 50k or 100k of north Northumberland’s best cycling routes, including the formidable Lyham Bank.
The event was put on by Wooler Cycle Hub and the response from those taking part has been overwhelmingly positive.
Organisers of the Wooler Wheel sportive ride have also been praised, along with the volunteer marshals and all those who supported the event.
Beth Mills, from the Hub, said: “Saturday’s Wooler Wheel was extremely successful and we can’t thank enough all those who helped the event take place, from our volunteers all round the route to the dinner ladies at Glendale Middle School who fed the riders on completion of the event.”
The only downside to Saturday was the news that one rider sustained a fall which resulted in her arm being broken in five places.
She was attended to quickly and remains in hospital for surgery.
The organisers are now looking at next May’s Wooler Wheel, which promises to be even bigger and better than ever.
