Hosts triumph in triples competition

Lesbury Bowling Club

BOWLERS at Lesbury played host to their annual Ladies Open Triples competition, which saw entries from all over the county on Sunday.

Play commenced at 9.30am on what was a lovely, warm sunny morning and although clouds built up during the morning the rain stayed off until the competition was finished and everyone was back in the clubhouse.

A high standard of bowling was on display throughout the round robin stages and after a break for lunch this high standard continued.

The final was contested between Lesbury and Burradon.

After five ends, the Lesbury triple was down five shots to one.

Going into the eighth end, the Lesbury triple were still three shots down but somehow managed to close out the Burradon triple and get the three shots they required to take the final to an extra end.

This proved to be quite a nerve-racking end with the shots swinging back and forward but in the end it was the triple from Lesbury who triumphed.

The winners were: R Stewart, S Crump and A Taylor (s) from Lesbury and runners-up were: P Browne, V Middleton and J Davison (s) from Burradon.

In closing, the president of Lesbury Bowling Club thanked all players for the spirit in which the competition had been played and also their sponsors Alistair Turner (Funeral Director) and Carlo’s Fish and Chip Restaurant for their continued support of this event and hope to see everyone next year.
