Honourable draw for Alnwick firsts

Alnwick 1 Newcastle Ladies 1

Alnwick haven’t had the best of starts to the season, due to a mixture of strong oppositions, match fitness and bad luck.

The first team have suffered three defeats on the bounce and this fixture was down to be one of the hardest of the season, so the girls were determined not to lose.

Alnwick started with full passion and 100 per cent effort and piled on the pressure. In the first half, they had the majority of possession and a few good chances.

Solid defending from Reed, Richardson and Payne kept Newcastle at bay.

Upfront, Murray, Britton and Pettifer were causing Newcastle a lot of hassle.

Alnwick won several penalty corners with the third one being the lucky strike from Cook to make it 1-0 to Alnwick.

Coach Fenwick gave us an inspirational team talk at half-time and urged them to keep attacking and try to widen the goal margin.

Newcastle came out strong as expected and had made some position switches. Six minutes from the end after another few arguable decisions Newcastle levelled the score.

An unfortunate end to the game but it felt like a win to Alnwick as they gave 100 per cent.

Alnwick play Stockton this weekend with a lot of the regular first team players unavailable.
