Alnwick Harriers

Seven Harriers took part in the Run Northumberland Half-Marathon at Kirkley, near Ponteland, on Sunday, March 16.

Despite the wind and a fairly undulating course, there were pbs for the Bartrums and Shelley Coates.

Pauline Aitchison was first Harrier to finish as she prepares for next month’s London Marathon.

Results: 146-Pauline Aitchison 1.38.09; 261-Dave Bartrum 1.45.45; 340-Maureen Bartrum 1.51.37; 341-Alex Reed 1.51.32; 437-Shelley Coates 1.59.49; 476-Richard Eastoe 2.04.24; 477-Gay Eastoe 2.04.25.

Gay and Richard Eastoe warmed up for the half-marathon by taking part in the Workington Parkrun the day before.

The pair clocked their quickest Parkruns, finishing in 54th and 55th, with Gay just ahead of Richard. The times were 26.18 and 26.19 and Gay was once again first in the female 60 category.

Also that morning, Phil and Charlotte Baston clocked up their 99th Parkrun at the beautiful Gibside Parkrun.

Once again, not a huge distance separated the pair at the end, with Phil shading it. Phil finished 19th in 23.04, while Charlotte was 20th and third female overall in 23.39.

Finally, Dave Hindmarsh was in action at the Cheltenham Parkrun. Dave was 39th in 21.45.

After three events in this year’s Alnwick Harriers Grand Prix, there’s a clear leader at the top of the 2014 standings.

After an excellent age category-winning performance at Brough Law a couple of weeks ago, Phil Hemsley has a decent lead over Pauline Aitchison. Mike Henry is in third, with Annabel Lillico fourth and last year’s Grand Prix victor Dave Hindmarsh fifth.

The top 12 will win trophies and at present that also includes Danny Richardson, last year’s runner-up Bruce Crombie, John Callaghan, Mike Telfer, Alex Reed, Steve Patterson and Eddie Longstaff.
