Rain and miserable conditions failed to stop a record 449 runners turning up for the Newcastle Parkrun on Saturday, January 12.
Alnwick Harriers’ Ian Simon finished a superb sixth, winning the male 40 category.
James Bolam finished not far behind in 10th, Phil Baston ran his second best Parkrun ever, Charlotte Baston smashed her personal best by over 30 seconds and there was a Parkrun debut for Audrey Stewart. As a result, Ian has just gone above Geoff Whitman in the very early grand prix standings.
Results: 6 Ian Simon, 17.55 (77.30); 10 James Bolam 18.17 (74.93); 110 Phil Baston 22.24 (62.80); 155 Charlotte Baston 23.32 (65.86); 249 Audrey Stewart 25.46 (68.43).
On the coast Phil Lee was 61st of the 156 finishers in the Whitley Bay Parkrun finishing in 24.56 (61.10).
The following day Bruce Crombie was in action in the Borders Cross Country League event at Paxton House.
In very muddy conditions Bruce finished 17th of the 182 runners in 23.18.
Finally Gay and Richard Eastoe took part in the Garstang 10k in Lancashire also on Sunday, January 13. They finished in 314th and 315th places both in 53.07.
