A recent golf day hosted by Alnwick Rotary Club in Alnmouth proved to be a major fund-raiser for various charities.

Fifty teams of four players from around the region competed over the immaculately-presented Foxton Hall course in the 13th annual Alnwick Rotary Club charity golf day.

From entry fees, raffles, sponsorship and donations, more than £6,700 was raised with the major beneficiaries being the North East Air Ambulance, HospiceCare North Northumberland and Alnwick Rotary’s own Mapalagama school-rebuilding project.

Representatives of the first two were presented with cheques for £1,000 by club president, Elaine Smith, who said: “As well as our nominated charities, we will not forget the local good causes that deserve our assistance.”

The winning team, awarded the Challenge Cup was the Rotary Club of Consett with 105 points; 2 Team Covance, 100; 3 Robertson’s Prime, 100.
