Winter League: The almost perfect autumnal conditions probably contributed to an unlucky, or lucky depending on which way you see it, 13 golfers out of a field of some 46 having their handicaps adjusted downwards after week three of the winter league last week. Tom Gregson was the pick of the bunch, securing first place with a winning score of 42pts. Two players had 41, separated by the countback rule, Eric Johnson was second and the promising youngster Connor Thompson in third. Check your handicap before playing next week Connor, you’re down from 17 to 12. Best gross score on the day was carded by Dan Harrison with 36pts, which included an uninspiring NR at the first hole, but this was followed by three consecutive birdies at the fourth, fifth, and sixth. He then scored 10 straight pars from the ninth to the 18th. A fine round of golf indeed by anyone’s standards. Six players scored a two, but trumping all of them was Michael Bedford, who holed a ace at the 17th. The Zecca Accumulator is now led by Eric Johnson with a total for three rounds of 111 followed by Ian Bell and Malcolm Peart both on 110. In the Easyway Order of Merit, Cyril Jobson still heads the table with 19pts despite not playing last week. Four players follow on 17pts namely Malcolm Peart, Eric Johnson, Ray Holding and Tom Gregson.

Winter League (week three): 1 T Gregson 42pts; 2 E Johnson 41; 3 C Thompson 41.
